11th Annual Sweetheart Relay

The 11th Sweetheart Relay, put on by Juneau Parks and Recreation for the 11th year running and the first race of the 1993 Empire Cup Runners Series. Conditions were spring-like, mostly dry, with an ice-free running surface.
Glenn Frick and Merry Ellefson won in 30:14 from Dawn Rider and Bob Deal in 31:53, and Laura Lee Nelson and Del Stewart were third in 32:46. Deal had the fastest three mile leg at 17:45, and Ellefson at 18:35 the fastest by a woman and the second fastest of anyone. Frick led the two mile leg in 11:39 from Jay Greiner in 12:48 and Doug Weaver in 12:51, with Margaret Fiege quickest among the women in 13:54. 21 couples ran.
